I’ve always appreciated a good story.

I started spinning my own tales while living on a remote Greek island through letters back home. The characters and encounters I described to family and friends turned into short stories. After receiving encouraging comments about my dialogue, I ventured into playwriting.

Born in the Midwest near Lake Michigan, I’ve traveled widely and lived in a variety of locations before winding up in Florida (of all places). My windows (including portholes) have always overlooked a lake, a river or an ocean. Naturally, water seeps into my stories and plays. Back on land, my latest novel Brave New Farm  is set on a generations-old dairy homestead.

I strive to create complex contradictory characters that confuse the audience’s biases. My “lofty goal” is to write intellectually challenging dramas which are not meant to settle questions, but to fuel debate.

I'm curious and fascinated by impulsive decisions and how we present our better or worse selves under stress.  I tackle faith versus reason in the face of dangerous in my two-act play, Affirmation. My first novel, Thumb Luck, is a story about two free-spirited, Midwest women hitchhiking to California in the 1970's. Then came Nothing To Go On. It details one chaotic night in a tumultuous marriage.

My 2-act and 10-minute plays received staged readings at The Laboratory Theatre and at Theatre Conspiracy and are ripe for further discriminating attention. See my listing at the New Play Exchange website.   “Wind Farm” (2-acts) was a semi-finalist at the 2015 Ashland New Plays Festival.  “The Long Trick,” a 10 minute play, was a finalist and read on stage in 2015 at An Evening of New Plays, by The Naples Players, in Florida.

Inducted as a member of The Theatre Conspiracy Playwrights under the leadership of Bill Taylor, Artistic Director of Theatre Conspiracy, Fort Myers, Florida.  I completed David Mamet’s enjoyable on-line Master Class in playwriting and I’m a member of The Dramatists Guild of America.

I received “Short Story Awards” from the Florida Weekly’s annual writing competitions and from the Gulf Shores Writer’s Association, of which I am a member. These awards granted a seat at the Florida Gulf Coast University Sanibel Writer’s Conference twice.

I’m a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, with a B.A. in Arts Management.
